New Zine! Miss Nancy the Little Black Cat

Many stories have been written about love and loss, most of them aimed at comforting adults; there are also quite a few children’s books that offer solace to little ones as they grapple with sadness and grief after losing a loved one. Now there is a new story to tell, for kids and grown-ups alike.

Connecticut author T. J. Buckley wrote Miss Nancy the Little Black Cat to honor her own little black cat named Nancy. It’s a story about a young girl and her invisible pet who travels far and wide seeking answers after her surprising transformation from a cat into a magical creature. This tender, rhyming tale with a mystical twist celebrates the deep, eternal bond that exists between humans and their pets.

The 5×7, 24-page paper booklet, or ‘zine, incorporates mixed-media elements — all lovingly created by the author — including paper cut-outs and rubber-stamped images. A Zentangle feline appears on the last page, where young artists are encouraged to Color This Cat!

Miss Nancy the Little Black Cat is available in the author’s Etsy shop: and also at Rock Garden in Branford (17 S. Main Street, Branford, CT 06405, 203-488-6699)
